J&T Puppy Genetic Health Guarantee

1) The Breeder certifies that the sire and dam have undergone comprehensive DNA genetic screening through Embark Veterinary, or an equivalent reputable canine genetic testing laboratory, in addition to any breed-specific health testing deemed appropriate by the Breeder.

The Breeder guarantees that, at the time of breeding, the sire and dam were not known to be genetically affected by any disease included on the DNA screening panel for which they were tested and that could reasonably have been avoided through responsible breeding decisions.

This guarantee extends only to diseases included on the parents’ completed DNA screening panel or other documented health testing performed prior to breeding. The scope of this guarantee is based solely on the genetic diseases and variants reported by the testing laboratory at the time the breeding occurred. The Breeder shall not be responsible for newly discovered mutations, newly recognized inherited diseases, or diseases added to testing panels after the date of breeding. The Breeder makes no warranty regarding diseases, mutations, or genetic conditions that:

 

* Were not included on the testing panel;

 

* Had not yet been identified by veterinary science;

 

* Had no commercially available validated genetic test at the time of breeding; or

 

* Cannot be reliably determined to have been inherited from the sire or dam.

 

2) This guarantee specifically does not apply to:

 

* Diseases or conditions for which no scientifically validated genetic screening test existed at the time of breeding.

 

* Multifactorial, polygenic, idiopathic, developmental, autoimmune, or environmentally influenced conditions.

 

* Conditions affected by nutrition, obesity, growth rate, exercise, injury, trauma, infection, parasites, toxins, medications, stress, neglect, abuse, or other environmental factors.

 

* Allergies, epilepsy of unknown origin, cancer, endocrine disorders, behavioral disorders, immune-mediated diseases, orthopedic conditions, cardiac conditions, neurological disorders, or any other condition that cannot be conclusively demonstrated to have been directly inherited from the sire or dam.

 

* Any condition that develops as a result of normal aging or circumstances beyond the Breeder’s control.

 

3) The Buyer acknowledges that no breeder, veterinarian, or genetic laboratory can guarantee that a living animal will remain free from every inherited, congenital, developmental, or acquired disease throughout its lifetime. Veterinary science continues to evolve, and new genetic mutations, diseases, and testing methods may be discovered after a litter has been produced. Accordingly, the Breeder makes no warranty against diseases or conditions that were not reasonably identifiable or preventable through the accepted health-testing standards available at the time of breeding.

 

4) The Buyer bears the responsibility of establishing, through written documentation from a licensed veterinarian and, when requested by the Breeder, an appropriate board-certified veterinary specialist or veterinary geneticist, that a condition satisfies every requirement of this guarantee. The Breeder reserves the right to obtain an independent veterinary opinion before determining whether a claim is covered.

If, within the first three (3) years of the Puppy’s date of birth, the Puppy is diagnosed with a covered genetic disease that meets all terms, conditions, and requirements of this Health Guarantee, and the claim is approved by the Breeder, the Buyer shall be entitled to receive one (1) replacement puppy of equal purchase value from a future available litter, at the Breeder’s discretion. The replacement puppy shall constitute the Buyer’s sole and exclusive remedy under this Health Guarantee.

 

A replacement puppy will be provided only when one becomes available from a future litter. The Buyer shall not be entitled to a refund, reimbursement of veterinary expenses, or cash compensation. The Buyer is not required to return the affected dog unless otherwise agreed in writing.

 

5) J&T will not be held liable for any puppy that is tested through Embark or any other genetic disease panel that states the puppy is “mixed breed” (schnoodle being the most prominent issue). Purebred status is determined through registration paperwork- AKC, etc. Schnauzer DNA is made up of many different breeds of dogs, and sometimes they test as “mixed breed” due to their genetic make-up.
 

-Per Embark vet: “Sometimes a registered purebred dog tested by Embark may not perfectly match the genetic signature of the reference panel. These results in no way affect the “purebred” status of the dog or its standing with the registration body. In fact, because these dogs usually contain genetic signatures not common in the breed, they can be highly useful for maintaining or even increasing genetic diversity in the breed.”

 

6) BREEDERS: Should a puppy purchased from J&T Miniature Schnauzers have it’s papers/registration revoked by their registry (AKC, APRI, CKC, etc.), due to ANY type of error/untruthful breeder within the lineage of said puppy that does not directly involve J&T Miniature Schnauzers, J&T will not be held at fault in any way. There will be no compensation of any sort returned in a situation, such as this, that is out of J&T’s direct control. 

 

7) BREEDERS: This health guarantee does NOT promise the production of puppies. This guarantee is for the health of the dog itself. This is not a guarantee that the male or female puppy will reproduce without any issues. We do check for testicles in the male puppies, but that is as far as the guarantee goes for reproduction.

 

8) J&T does NOT make any guarantee on a puppy’s physical characteristics such as coat color/intensity, size, weight, retained teeth, small bite issues or any other physical characteristic that do not affect the health of the puppy.
